Replacing a 2007 27 inch lcd tv with this 55 inch sony 4k tv. You can imagine the difference. Amazing picture and sound in comparison. Easy to setup. Instant home theater. So far very pleased- bluray disks rock (watching the batman the dark knight is a wonder). Also, many choices for 4k content on netflix (ex. Stranger things) and youtube. This is a review for the 75" version. . If you are shopping for a 75" tv, this is a solid value. The options are fairly limited at this size. . Here are the current 75" tvs available, and my key research points added to assist other buyers. . 1. Sony x850d $3300 (ips panel, 420-422 cd/m2 brightness). 2. Lg uh8500 $3500 (ips panel, 219-556 cd/m2 brightness). 3. Vizio p-series $3800 (va panel, 317-535 cd/m2 brightness). 4. Samsung ju7100 $3300 (va panel, 323-324 cd/m2 brightness). -. 5. Samsung ks9000 $6000 (va panel, 515-1489 cd/m2 brightness). 6. Sony x940d $6000 (va panel, 465-1054 cd/m2 brightness). . How did i narrow this down? . 1. In my situation, the features on the x940d and ks9000 do not warrant an additional $2200 - $2700 in price for the 75" models. 2. For a large living room space with avg. Viewing distance at 10', wide viewing angles and brightness were my key considerations. Since the ju7100 and p-series are both va panels, i decided to eliminate those from contention. 3. This left the x850d and uh8500 ips panels. I ultimately decided on the x850d due to the sustained brightness and slightly lesser price point. . Pros:. 1. Value. 2. Quality bezel / frame. 3. Remote control, including voice & microphone integration for smarttv features such as a youtube search. 4. Remembers multitude of custom picture settings for each input source. 5. Default picture modes. 6. Built-in speakers above average. 7. Color. 8. Smarttv os, specifically netflix integration & 4k quality. We upgraded our netflix account to stream 4k content, and it looks amazing on this tv. There are quite a few scenic type 4k shows on netflix to try out. There is a netflix button on the sony remote, and the integration is excellent - just hit the netflix button and you go directly to the app, pick out your show, then you're on your way. The tv automatically renders 4k or upscales non-4k for whatever you are watching. We use a hard-wired connection to our lan from the tv, and netflix streams 4k content without any issue. 9. Youtube from the smarttv/android tv os is outstanding. You can use the integrated microphone on the remote to search, then once you make your selection the tv displays the content full screen and does a great job rendering/upscaling the content. We often watch upcoming movie trailers now through youtube on our living room tv and it feels like we're in a mini-theater. . Cons:. 1. Could be brighter to fight off ambient daytime light. Daytime lighting performance & contrast levels. 2. Would like for a quicker way to switch through picture modes (i often flip from vivid to cinema between day and evening viewing). 3. Ambient daylight reflections and glare could possibly be improved with a different screen material. . One other note, it was very difficult for me to gauge the screens on display at stores. They all truly looked outstanding. Even with all 6 of the screens listed above at 75" on display in dimly lit theater styled rooms i could not pick between any of them except the x940d and ks9000 which appeared more vivid. However, that was not worth the large increase in price at the 75" model. Fwiw to sony or samsung i would have probably sprung for the x940d or ks9000 in the $4500 range. . For viewing in a family room, with wide angles and all lighting conditions depending on time of day, i will most likely be replacing this screen once more affordable 75" options are available in the coming years that can better deal with fighting through ambient daylight and improving contrast & black levels. . I will update this review if anyone has any specific questions with the x850d. . 11/23/16 review update: coming up on 4 months of ownership on the new tv - everything is working great. Regarding the picture, i've really come to appreciate the cinema and home cinema modes. They create a very realistic picture, especially color - and is a good starting point for creating custom picture modes. For movies, this tv is in it's wheel-house at night with dim, warm lighting. The "advanced contrast enhancer" setting is also great - recommend setting that to high as it improves low light scenes. . 1/14/17 review update: couple more pros and cons, and everything is still functioning great. Pro: if you are a ufc fan, streaming a live ufc match in 4k looks incredible via the android tv ufc app (currently, only available on a sony). Con: dark scene contrast. This is not the tv's fault and is just more a limitation of all lcd and ips screens (obsolete by oled and improved by local dimming lcds). In dark scenes w/ some type of ambient light (moon-light, candle light etc. ) the tv cannot properly shade individual dark elements on the screen, giving everything a dark gray sheen. The "advanced contrast enhancer" does help and recommend setting this to high.

Sony BDPS6700 4K Upscaling 3D Streaming Blu-Ray Disc Player 2016 Model
This is the 2016 model. I wonder what the difference is for the 2015 model at a somewhat lower price. But, it installed easily. Is small and compact not the usual 15" to 17" width. That makes it easy to place anywhere. The a/c power is low voltage thru a transformer and a light weight cord that then plugs into the player. Easier to install than players that have a fixed a/c cord into the player when the player is in an equipment console or cabinet. . Keep in mind that it does not have a web browser which my samsung had that this replaced. Setup easy but could use a better explanation of the reasons to select some of the options that are available. Technical thoughts behind me then: wonderful picture! nice remote.

I have 1100 dvds and hd-dvds and no blu ray discs, so needless to say, i was very interested in the sony machine, because it could not only play, but upgrade dvds to hd and even beyond if the tv was capable of showing it. Upon receipt, it took perhaps 20 minutes to get it on line with my wireless network, and another 5 minutes to download the latest software. I immediately tested the claim to upgrade dvds by playing one that had turned green on my old player. Not on was the color restored, but the picture was far superior to what it had been before. I still do not own any blu ray discs, so i can't speak to that capability, and i also do not have a 4k or 3d tv, so i can address those features. I do, however, have an excellent samsung 1920 x 1080 led, 55-inch tv and the picture of the regular dvds was excellent. I've saved the best features to the end. I currently use-used-an apple tv system to stream netflix and other systems. As one might know, apple makes it difficult for online store prime video to stream over their system. Well, this player has the app for netflix, online store video, and several others built in. I have not used my apple tv since i bought this player, because not only does it play what i'm interested in-netflix, online store video, youtube, etc. But the picture displayed is far superior to that streamed by apple tv without the fuss that apple tv requires. Bottom line-this is an excellent machine that does everything it says it will, and in a very small package (about the size of a lined notepad and about 2 inches high. A nice streaming player. Colors are vibrant, wi-fi connection works well. Mostly, not too much lag time when pressing buttons. The blu-ray/dvd player work as they should. I am really reviewing the streaming. I have youtube, netflix, vudu, and online store prime. I have a roku 3, and this bdp-s6700 video blows that away. The bdp-s6700 also supports 24p on vudu, online store, and netflix. . Bugs:. . 1. Pandora forgets the user name/password after shut down of the unit. . 2. Youtube search and settings get cleared after a few shutdowns. I don't like the audio "bloop" noise on youtube when navigating, and out of the blue, it will start up again where i have to go back to the settings inside youtube and shut off the noise. It also clears my search history on youtube after a few uses. There is no apparent pattern on when it will do this. . 3. (biggie) after playing vudu or online store prime at 24p, and exiting to the home screen, the 24p does not reset to 60p. This causes issues with playing youtube after using vudu or online store, because it will keep youtube at 24p. Sounds good perhaps, but youtube at 24p is choppy ( produces judder). The fix for that is to play netflix at 24p, and then go to the bdp-s6700's homepage. For some reason exiting the netflix app, resets to the default 60p, if you play a few seconds of video on netflix first. You can also shut down the unit, and it seems that after a while of it being shut down, will reset to 60p when restarted. Not a quick shutdown and restart for some reason. . All in all, this is a better streaming player than the roku 3 because of the better video, audio, and 24p support on vudu, online store, and netflix. Just wish they would fix the bugs. . Just fyi, i also have a bdp-s3700 and the 24p does reset properly on that unit. However, the bdp-s6700 has slightly better video and audio. And i had a bdp-s3500 and bdp-s6500 from last year, and those did not support 24p on netflix, and had lock up problems, where i had to pull the cord to reset. This years models 3700/6700 are better in that respect, so far.
- K. GladysBeware when playing 4k dvds. It is not compatible. It works great on regular dvds and blue rays. The upscaling on regular dvds is probably the best feature. Even old dvds look almost bluray quality. I bought a referbished one but it looked new in the box. All and all very nice but i bought it to use with my new 4k tv so i'm a bit bummed. Should've done more research.
This blu ray player is very compact and easy to use. Haven't used the streaming services yet but the picture quality on an lg 4k tv looks great. Big price jump over the next model down but what i had read was if you have a 4k tv which does its own up-scaling, having the processor in the blu ray player could make the picture higher quality. Didn't want to try the other player, might as well get the best picture possible.

Sonos PLAYBAR TV Soundbar/ Wireless Streaming TV Music Speaker
I'll admit, the sonos playbar is not cheap, and probably not the best value if you're concerned about "bang for your buck". However, if you're already using any other sonos speakers in your home, and you're in the market for a sound bar, i don't know why you'd get anything else. . The playbar hooks up to the optical output from your tv or home theater receiver, so you'll first want to make sure that you have an optical output. If you don't, the sonos playbar won't work with your tv. . Once hooked up, the sonos app (i used the ios app) walks you through the setup of the playbar, which is just like any other sonos speaker for the most part. The only difference is that the playbar setup also takes you through a step where it learns the volume up/down controls from your tv. It then walks you through turning off your tv speakers. The idea here is that the playbar replaces your tv speakers, but you can now control the playbar volume from your tv remote as usual. . Of course, as a sonos device, you can still play streaming audio through it just like any other sonos speaker, and you can group it with other sonos speakers as well. The playbar seems to do a really good job of figuring out what you're trying to do with it; i can be streaming music through it one moment, and then when i turn the tv on, it switches over to tv audio instead. . The playbar is also pretty flexible in terms of placement. You can set it on a shelf, or with the separate wall mount bracket, you can mount it on the wall above or below your tv. With only two cables running to it (power and optical audio), it's also pretty easy to hide the cables. . Sound quality is excellent, and can be improved further by pairing it with a sonos subwoofer. I haven't done that yet, because the playbar alone is sufficient for my uses currently.

Hi. First i have to say i am 52 yrs old and i never write reviews. I always thought of sonos like apple. Over priced mediocre product. I am so wrong ! (about sonos) lol. Still don't care for apple. But i have been into audio since high school in the 80's and i don't quite think of myself as an "audiophile" but i do know good sound. I have owned almost every brand of speaker known to man, and i have to say being able to use my phone with a lossless source such as tidal or any of the others is fantastic! as much as i tried to convince myself that my vinyl sounded better, i couldn't. I have my turntable in a bedroom with a connect amp and some vintage advent speakers playing and it's just so beyond words how nice sonos all works together. My 5. 1 just blows everyone away! it might not be as loud as some, but the clarity is just phenomenal! love my sonos! well worth the almost (choke) 3 grand i have invested. The playbar? very good. The playbar + the sub? even better. The soundbar + the sub + two play 1 speakers? un-freaking paralleled. I thought i had maybe had an eargasm before. Once. Like in college. But after experiencing the entire surround sound set up offered by sonos i realized that what i had experienced before was merely the tip of an iceberg. You definitely get what you pay for with this system and i would whole-heartedly recommend it. If nothing else, the setup is worth the purchase. It was easy enough that joe biden could do it. And frankly, it was fun! i can just picture joe walking around his living room, grinning from ear to ear, as he goes through the tuning process. Man i love that guy.

MooreAfter fighting with technical support for over 6 months about our first sonos playbar constantly dropping out, the replacement bar has worked flawlessly! i love the sound quality, and with the play 1's and sub woofer, the entire sound system is just awesome. However, i did have to call/email in to technical support more than a dozen time to the point i told them that i wanted a manager or someone to refund my money before i finally got an escalation engineer to review my records and issue and rma. I had to place an order for a new one, that they just put a hold on my credit card, and once i returned the damaged one in the replacement box with a returned shipping label, they released the hold without charging my card. It was still a long and painful process, but i finally have a wireless surround system that stream music, and works with my big screen tv without constant dropouts. My suggest is, if the product does not work out of the box, do not wait. Call tech support and ask for a manager right away. The front line support folks try but seriously my case should have been escalated long before i had to completely rewire my home network, and more than 2 dozen diagnostic reports filed. I travel for my job so i do have to admit that some of the calls were a couple of weeks between reports, but still it was frustrating for my family and myself to have to go through all of that. I do love the product (now that it is working) and have even purchased an additional play 1 to put in our garage or patio so that when we are working around the house, the music will follow us.
I love the whole sonos concept. I have two 2nd generation play 5s the sub woofer and yesterday i received the playbar. As usual it set up with ease and i was happy with the sound and quality. The only thing that keeps it from the fifth star is the fact that i can't use my smart remote with it because of the type of signal it sends to the tv. I had to hunt up my old cable remote in order to get it to work not impressed with having to use two remotes. Other than that it is a wonderful addition to the sonos family i now have the whole set up and love the sound.
